Food for Peace:
An Idea Whose Time Has Come

I send greetings to this conference on the subject of ‘Food for Peace’, and offer my encouragement for its great success.

The idea of Food for Peace, and a serious war to wipe out hunger in this world—liberating people everywhere from the scourge of hunger and starvation—was first embraced by President John Kennedy, who saw inadequate food supply and starvation as standing in the way of humanity’s progress. Even then, the technological means existed to provide adequate food for everyone on the planet.

For more than half a century, Lyndon LaRouche and his wife Helga have been fighting to free mankind from the privation of food shortages and starvation, and the conflicts and death that they bring about.

All that is required to realize a world without hunger and starvation is for the leading nations of the world, such as China, Russia, and the United States, to commit the necessary resources to realize, finally, this result and to lead other nations in this effort.

I cannot speak officially for my government, but I do know this: My government and my nation are willing and ready to do whatever is necessary to realise the goal of a global ‘Food for Peace’ programme. South Africa is the only full-set economy on the African continent. We have the means to produce, right here in Africa, some of the machinery and equipment needed to rapidly increase food production on our continent.

For Africans, and for many people in my own country, this is not some esoteric or theoretical matter: Starvation kills. Denying people adequate food supplies and the means to produce them has been the deliberate murderous policy of the British Empire, and the global monetarist financial system it dominates. Those who have this outlook have always been the most despicably evil of bastards throughout history. They have known that limiting food supplies and related resources leads to conflict, and war, and mass death; they have encouraged such outcomes!

The people of this planet have the means to solve this problem, and must commit ourselves to do so. But doing so requires that we must reject all efforts by the dying Empire of money to impede us. Food for Peace is an idea whose time has finally come. We must all embrace it.

Best wishes for the success of this conference and for victory!
