Greetings from LaRouche South Africa
To the Boston Friedrich Schiller Birthday Celebration

Saturday, November 18, 2017

On behalf of LaRouche South Africa, I send warmest greetings to our friends gathered in Boston to celebrate the 258th birthday of Friedrich Schiller, our poet-philosopher.

As you may know, the Chinese word for “danger” can also mean “opportunity.” The world is now at a point of greater danger than it has ever known. But it seems also to be at a moment of greater opportunity! President Donald Trump, in his visit to Asia, has just demonstrated the possibility of a harmonious world sparked by China’s Belt and Road Initiative. But the oligarchs and their thieves will surely destroy him, if we let them.

So it is up to us to inform and mobilize people of good will everywhere, to ensure the outcome that humankind so urgently needs. We have already had remarkable successes. But they are not yet enough.

One of our weapons is Schiller’s principle of self-development—development of the self to the point that our very hearts desire nothing other than what is necessary and good for humanity.

Helga Zepp-LaRouche emphasizes that Confucius was Schillerian before Schiller came into the world. And it is true. Here is an example, from the Analects of Confucius, Book II, verse 4:

“The Master said, At fifteen I set my heart upon learning. At thirty, I had planted my feet firm upon the ground. At forty, I no longer suffered from perplexities. At fifty, I knew what were the biddings of Heaven. At sixty, I heard them with docile ear. At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart; for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right.”

Best wishes for a joyful—and fruitful—celebration!
